What Sits Just Beyond

"...I will turn aside and see this great sight..." - Exodus 3:3
You know that moment when you glance around a room you have lived in for years and notice something you stopped seeing. A window you used to pause at every morning, now just part of the wall. Nothing in the room changed. But one morning you looked toward that window and the view was waiting for you again. Most of us have built a life that works, and the structure does what we asked it to do. But somewhere inside that working life, a question you had not asked in years quietly returned. Maybe it didn't surface on its own.
Moses, a shepherd in the wilderness of Midian, had spent forty years tending someone else's sheep on the same hillside when a bush caught fire at the border of his path and did not burn up. He could have kept walking. Instead he said, "I will turn aside and see this great sight." God waited and did not speak until Moses turned toward it and heard Him. He wasn't searching for a new assignment. He just stopped long enough to face what he had never seen before, and that one pause turned a shepherd into the man who led an entire nation out of slavery. God set the fire, and Moses only had to turn.
You may have had a moment like that one. Not a burning bush, but a conversation that caught your attention when you weren't expecting it. A verse you have read dozens of times that suddenly said something new. A pull toward a place you would not know how to explain. What you shaped still works, and your routines still carry you through the day. But something at the edge of your routine loosened long enough for you to see past where you have been focusing. Whatever you saw then, you did not go searching for it. It came to where you were.
That moment you noticed isn't asking you to take anything apart. Everything you constructed stands firm and does what you asked it to do. But the ground you are standing on sits at the threshold of a road you had not seen before, and that curiosity may be the most honest thing you have felt in a long time. What you've built is the road beneath your feet. It just goes further than you thought.
Now go.
Prayer
Father, we did not know we had stopped looking. Thank You for what You showed us just beyond what we built. Open our eyes to what You are doing just past where we have been looking. Amen.
