What Sits Just Beneath

Key Scripture: "...The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough." - Matthew 13:33 NIV
A woman folds leaven into dough, covers the bowl with a cloth, and goes back to the rest of her morning. The counter stays quiet. Nothing in the kitchen looks different yet. But somewhere inside that bowl, the whole batch is changing without anyone standing there to watch it happen.
Jesus told a similar story about a man who scattered seed on the ground and went to bed, and, "...the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how" (Mark 4:26-27). Maybe that is closer to what has been unfolding around you than you first realized. Flour becomes bread. Seed becomes a field. And all of it keeps moving long before anyone fully understands what is happening beneath the surface.
Jesus said, "...the kingdom of God is in your midst" (Luke 17:21). Right here, in the ordinary week you just started. That may be why parts of life that once felt complete no longer feel quite as complete as they once did. Plans built around predictability begin leaving less room to breathe. The leaven is already in the dough. Something larger has entered the ordinary, and the old measurements are beginning to feel too small for what is quietly taking shape.
God told His people through the prophet Amos, "...Seek me and live" (Amos 5:4). The words almost move together as though they were never meant to be separated. The leaven does not leave the flour as it found it. It carries the whole batch toward something new. Ambitions that once seemed sufficient begin feeling smaller beside what God is awakening. Carefully arranged routines loosen their grip. Not because ordinary life no longer matters, but because the Kingdom has entered it. Not as punishment. As invitation. Your arrangement for God's.
Moses, the man God chose to lead an entire nation out of slavery, reminded Israel, God's own people, that, "...the eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms" (Deuteronomy 33:27). Underneath. Already beneath the ground you are standing on today. Those arms are not carrying you toward a polished version of the life you already planned. They are carrying you further into the life God has been forming all along. And the carrying may have begun long before you understood where it was leading. The whole batch is changing. This is new life!
Prayer
God, something is already moving beneath the surface and we did not begin it. Carry us into what You are building. Teach us to trust what You are shaping, even before we fully understand it. Amen.
