What Showed Up Before You Did

Key Scripture: "...My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." - Exodus 33:14 NIV

My name was still written across the front in that familiar handwriting, the kind that used to appear on grocery lists and little notes beside my coffee. In the corner, almost like an afterthought: "For one of the hard days." "If you're reading this, I'm guessing life is feeling heavy again. I used to notice how strength kept meeting us right when we thought we had nothing left. Not enough to make everything easy. Just enough to take the next step. And every time it did, I think it was God's quiet way of reminding us that neither of us had ever really been carrying those moments alone."

Someone placed that letter in a drawer before the hard day existed, and you aren't the first person to discover that God works the same way. A young king named Josiah sent workers to repair the temple, and while they cleared what had been neglected, a priest named Hilkiah discovered something no one expected, "...I have found the Book of the Law in the temple of the LORD" (2 Kings 22:8). It had been there for generations, hidden inside the walls they were rebuilding. God placed what the nation needed inside the thing they thought they were fixing. You've probably had your own version, not a scroll in a wall, but a job that came through after you'd stopped pushing, or an answer to a prayer you'd stopped praying out loud. God told His people through Isaiah, "...I will go before you and will level the mountains" (Isaiah 45:2). Not a promise the road would disappear. A promise about who was already on it.

If you've been walking with God this season, you already believed He would show up. That was never the question. The question was when, and whether you could keep walking while you waited. Maybe what's surprising you isn't that He's faithful. It's that He was already working inside the ordinary moments that felt like nothing was happening. Jesus told His closest friends, "...In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). He didn't say the trouble would end. He said He had already walked it ahead of them. The difficulty this week is still real. But the God you've been trusting has been closer than the waiting made it feel.

The week still has the project, the carpool, the conversation no one wants to start. The letter in the drawer was written before the hard day arrived. And the God who hid His word inside temple walls for a king who hadn't been born yet is already inside the ordinary thing you're walking into next. He was already in it.

Father, we believed You would come. We just didn't know it would be here, inside the ordinary thing we almost walked past. Thank You for being ahead of us. Amen.
