Walking Into What You Can't See

Key Scripture: "...he persevered because he saw him who is invisible." - Hebrews 11:27 NIV

You pressed send on the email before the next step was clear. Not because you were reckless, but because something in you had already settled the decision. The job wasn't the right place anymore. Your finger hovered for a second, and then it didn't. The inbox confirmed delivery, and the room went quiet and still.

Moses, who led a nation out of Egypt, knew what it was like to move before the road was visible, "...he persevered because he saw him who is invisible" (Hebrews 11:27). He didn't know what lay ahead. He just knew the God leading him could be trusted. God had already promised, "...I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them" (Isaiah 42:16). And maybe that's closer to where you've been lately too. Not having every answer you wanted, but noticing the need for answers doesn't hold you the way it used to. There was a time when you would have needed the whole plan before taking the first step. Now there are moments when trusting God has started to matter more than knowing what's next. God said through the prophet Isaiah, "...You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you" (Isaiah 26:3). Peace like that doesn't come from figuring everything out first. It comes from knowing the One you're trusting.

And somewhere along the way, that trust started changing you too. God said that whoever trusts "...will never be stricken with panic" (Isaiah 28:16). Not because the uncertainty disappears, but because the person facing it has been changed by being near God long enough that His steadiness has become theirs. David, the king and poet, carried that same confidence when he wrote, "...The LORD is my light and my salvation — whom shall I fear?" (Psalm 27:1). That isn't a battle cry but the settled voice of someone whose fear has been quietly answered by the presence it was afraid of losing. He said it plainly, "...With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken" (Psalm 16:8).

Whatever the next step looks like for you today, the decision you keep revisiting, the generosity you can't afford, the forgiveness you haven't spoken yet, you don't have to see the whole road before you start walking it. "...Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be established" (2 Chronicles 20:20). The road may not be clear yet, but the God you know by name is already standing in it. He was already in it.

Prayer

Father, we are not pretending the road is clear. But we are done waiting for clarity before we trust You. You have been enough before. You are enough now. Teach us to walk like we believe it. Amen.
