Welcoming God's New Work

Thursday, January 1, 2026

Key Scripture: "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" — Isaiah 43:19

As a new year begins, it is easy to look at our lives and see mostly what feels unfinished or ordinary. Yet into this very place, God speaks: "I am doing a new thing." He is not asking you to make yourself new by effort. He is inviting you to notice the quiet ways He is already moving—like first light slowly touching the edges of a familiar room.

You may find small shifts stirring inside: a gentle desire to pray a little more honestly, a nudge to open Scripture with fresh eyes, a longing to be known more deeply, or a simple warmth of gratitude that surprises you. These moments may seem small, but they carry His fingerprint. The One who makes "streams in the wasteland" is also making space for living water in your inner life. "Every good and perfect gift is from above" (James 1:17), which means even the smallest awakening of hope does not begin with you—it begins with Him.

Perhaps part of your heart is cautious, wondering if it is safe to hope for newness again. Another part may quietly lean toward the promise that "if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come" (2 Corinthians 5:17). You do not have to untangle all of that at once. Let this simple truth rest in you today: God's new work in me is a gift to receive, not a project to manage.

So how might you live this, gently, in the next few hours? At some point today, pause in the middle of whatever you are doing and look for one small sign of goodness—a kind word, a moment of peace, a task done with unexpected lightness. When you notice it, breathe a quiet prayer: "Lord, I see this gift, and I thank You." That simple thank You is where your trust steps out of your head and into a day that stays awake to what God is doing—where doors open toward "things no eye has seen and no ear has heard" (1 Corinthians 2:9)—good things He has prepared for you.

Prayer

Lord, as I enter this new season, soften my heart to recognize the good and perfect gifts You are placing along my path. Help me welcome Your new work with trust, receive it with gratitude, and walk through this day aware that You are tenderly making me new.
