The Version of You

"...I no longer live, but Christ lives in me..." - Galatians 2:20

Something has happened to you that you have not fully caught up to yet. It is larger than a shift in habits and deeper than a new stretch of effort. It is not something you are slowly becoming. It is something that has already begun, and most days we move through our hours without realizing what is quietly unfolding within us. If that feels too definite, consider it for a moment as a possibility rather than a settled conclusion.

Paul, one of the earliest followers of Jesus, tried to describe this kind of change. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me," Galatians 2:20. Read that slowly. He is not describing a refined version of who he was. He is describing something that reaches deeper than improvement, something that touches the source of who he is. Christ Himself present and active where Paul once stood alone. This reflects what Jesus said, "...apart from me you can do nothing," John 15:5, not as limitation, but as the beginning of a different kind of life.

If what Paul is describing extends beyond his own experience, then it may reach into ours as well. Beneath the version of you that manages the day, carries responsibility, and holds things together, there is another life present. It does not announce itself or require recognition to continue. Yet it remains steady and active, even when it is not being considered. "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it," Proverbs 4:23. This begins to change how an ordinary day is understood. Each morning is not a return to the same starting place. It is a continuation of something already in motion. What felt unfinished is not wasted. It is being gathered into something that has direction, even when that direction is not yet clear.

There is a steady anticipation here. Not driven by explanation or a defined plan. It is the recognition that your life is not without purpose and not held in place. "In all things God works for the good of those who love him," Romans 8:28. It is being carried forward from within. Not by pressure, but by a presence that knows where this is going and reveals it step by step. Paul knew this came with cost. "...I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us," Romans 8:18. He was not minimizing what it required. He had seen enough to understand where it leads, and that began to shape how he endured it.

So before you measure today by how well you manage it, pause. You are not starting from zero. Something is already underway within you, and today is part of where it is going. The next time you find yourself in a quiet moment with nothing being asked of you, notice what rises there and ask, even briefly, what is this coming from. Stay with this.

Prayer

Father, thank You that our lives are not without direction or purpose. You have already begun something in us that we are still learning to recognize. Give us clarity to see it and a steady confidence to walk in it, one step at a time. Amen.
