The Turning

Key Scripture: "...Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always." - Psalm 105:4 NIV

You're at the kitchen counter before anyone else is awake, and you realize you've been talking to God without deciding to, not a formal prayer, just a conversation that opened somewhere between reaching for the mug and filling it. You know what it feels like when seeking God is something you schedule. This morning felt different, closer to turning toward someone who just walked into the room. And the part that keeps catching your attention is that the hunger for it arrived before you planned it.

The psalmist put two words together that most people keep in separate rooms, "...Look to the Lord and his strength; seek his face always" (Psalm 105:4). His face and His strength in the same sentence. Not closeness in one place and power in another, but both arriving together in your own week. The house finally sold and the child who hadn't called in months left a voicemail, both in the same season, both without your engineering. The decision that circled for weeks settled quietly between one morning and the next without a strategy attached to it. Paul wanted exactly this, "...I want to know Christ, yes, to know the power of his resurrection" (Philippians 3:10). Not more information about God. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, showing up inside regular days, carrying you farther than your own strength should have allowed.

That growing hunger is worth paying attention to. You pray, and instead of finishing, you find yourself wanting more of Him than you wanted six months ago. You read one passage and another comes to mind before you've closed it. Jesus told a crowd that kept following Him for bread, "...No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them" (John 6:44). They thought they were searching for food while God was pulling them toward something deeper. Paul described the same movement, "...it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose" (Philippians 2:13). Not only the strength to move forward, but the desire to keep moving toward Him at all. That deeper hunger isn't failure to be content. It's resurrection life refusing to stay still inside you.

The quiet peace running through your mornings starts making more sense too. God's mercy keeps arriving before the day fully begins, "...his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23). The hunger, the strength, the turning, even the growing desire for more of Him, none of it appeared from nowhere. All of it started with Him, long before you noticed the turning had begun. He was already in it.

Prayer

Father, the hunger arrived before the habit and the strength arrived before we asked. We didn't start this turning, but we feel it. Teach us to follow the life You are already growing inside us. Amen.
