Awake to What God Is Already Doing

He prunes… so that it may bear more fruit. — John 15:2

The word Jesus puts in front of us today is fruit. And fruit grows when a life is not crowded. That’s why He prunes: He clears what competes with what matters, so we can abide—and begin to recognize what He has already been growing. It is about learning to live awake to the life of God that is already at work among us. Jesus said, “My Father is always at His work, and I too am working,” working quietly to clear what crowds the heart and to guide what is growing. — John 5:17

Pruning isn’t God standing at a distance; it’s His nearness with a purpose. Sometimes it looks like a quiet narrowing—less noise, fewer attachments, a simpler focus—and we slowly realize we can breathe again. God is not trying to take life from us; He is clearing what blurs our vision. He trims what scatters attention and what dulls desire—so that something truer and more alive can come through. And even as He does, Jesus steadies us—“Come to Me.” — Matthew 11:28 We’re not outsiders trying to earn a place; “you have received the Spirit of adoption… ‘Abba! Father!’” — Romans 8:15 We can rest here—He isn’t cutting us down to shame us; He’s freeing us to bear what lasts.

God may be shaping discernment in us today—not as a heavy lesson, but as a brighter kind of awareness. The kind that notices what brings us closer to Him, and what quietly pulls us away. The kind that chooses the better thing without drama—one small “yes” at a time.

Jacob helps us see what this looks like. He was traveling alone with an uncertain future when he lay down on an ordinary night with a stone for a pillow. And heaven opened. Angels moved, God spoke, and Jacob woke up shaken by wonder: the Holy had been here all along. Then he said what we’ve all felt in our own ways: “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” — Genesis 28:16 And over time we come to see how true this is: “Where can I go from Your Spirit?” — Psalm 139:7 Sometimes the shift we’ve been begging for is not a change of place, but a change of awareness.

So we settle into this moment—unhurried, awake, and open. Not hunting for a dramatic moment, but staying awake to the small, holy ones: a conversation where grace is needed, a choice where integrity matters, a pause where peace returns. Often the “appointment” is simply this—abide, notice, obey the next small nudge—and let that be enough for today.

Lord, keep us awake today. Clear what clouds our sight. Sharpen what matters. As You move through the ordinary moments of this day, help us recognize You and respond with simple obedience and quiet joy. Amen.
